This is how I feel about The Great British Fry-Up.

And that’s how I felt when Rebecca Feingold, owner of Goldy’s in Collingwood, told me she was putting one on the menu. But that’s not all.

What makes the Gold Street watering hole one of the city’s best new pubs is the fact it doesn’t feel new at all. It feels like it’s been around forever. And it’s just got even better with the news it’s morphed into an all-day tavern on weekends; the charming atrium and sun-drenched parklet are now open from 9am on Saturdays and Sundays.

“Every pub in the UK has these fry-ups, and it’s so part of the culture there,” Feingold
says. “But it’s not so much here.” So, she wants to help change that.

Expect a slightly levelled-up fry-up here: fried eggs, a bacon-steak schnitzel and potato rosti, plus chipolatas, a roasted portobello, roasted tomatoes with fried sage, house-baked beans and greens. The vegan version brings in tofu scramble and “soyrizo”.

Fry-ups are said to have hangover-curing properties, and if that’s what you’re after, add on a hair-of-the-dog Bloody Mary (rechristened the Bloody Oath, of course).
