There’ll be sweeping views of the Melbourne skyline – and the MCG – at a sleek new modern-Italian rooftop restaurant opening in Cremorne in spring 2023.

Called Amatrice, it’s the creation of two well-known Melbourne restaurateurs: Dave Parker (director of the San Telmo Group, which includes Pastuso, the recently opened Robata and, of course, San Telmo) and Alex Brawn (owner of shore-side Williamstown diner Sebastian).

Design-wise, Parker and Brawn want the space to exude effortless elegance. And their vision sits somewhere between a handsome Milanese train station bistro and the members-only Soho House rooftops found across the northern hemisphere.

At the rooftop restaurant, the menu will be mostly about pasta, alongside “fun” variations on traditional Italian dishes (the name comes from the Italian village of Amatrice, in the region of Lazio). There’ll also be a bistro-style cafe downstairs.

Amatrice will be located a couple of hundred metres up from Richmond train station. And the dining and drinking destination will form part of new commercial project Six Cubitt, by local development group Pace, on Cubitt Street in Cremorne. As well as upmarket office spaces, there’ll also be a plunge pool, spa, sauna and wellness area.

Amatrice is set to open in spring 2023.
