In February, cult Sydney charcoal-chicken joint El Jannah announced it was set to open a drive-through in Melbourne this year.
Due to a slight delay in planning permits, though, the Preston store – at a former Hungry Jack’s site on High Street – is now expected to open next March. So, while we’ll have to wait a little longer to try the charry chook, we won’t even have to leave the car to do so.
But, while the opening of its first Melbourne location is still a way off, El Jannah has just announced ambitious plans for a second – on Camp Road in Campbellfield, in the city’s north – which is slated to open in mid-2022. It’ll also be a drive-through.

SIGN UPThe family-owned, Sydney-based chain – which first opened in 1998 – is known for its affordable, fuss-free Middle Eastern food, which includes the signature charcoal chicken, freshly made falafel and standout garlic sauce. And it’s ascended to cult status, with stores all across town, including a drive-through in the western suburb of Smithfield.
El Jannah is slated to open at 600 High Street, Preston in March and at 10 Camp Road, Campbellfield mid-2022.
