Order is restored.

In November 2020, we thought we’d lost late-night Chinatown institution Ling Nan for good. But this November, after a year of silence, part-owner Sherri Mong shared news of its revival.

The decades-old Chinese diner has swapped Little Bourke for Lonsdale Street, in a crisp, white-walled space with the same menu, the same chef and many of the same staff.

Unsurprisingly, it was more or less a full house on opening night, with devoted regulars front and centre. Broadsheet photographer Arianna Leggiero was there to capture all the action – including a traditional Chinese lion dance bringing blessings of fortune and happiness, and raining confetti down on plates of the beloved XO pippies and Chinese doughnuts.

It was just the kind of welcome back the Ling Nan team needed – and deserved.
