Throughout Melbourne’s six lockdowns we’ve encountered all sorts of extra cocktails: 1.5-litre Margarita “bagnums”, 1.5-litre bottled Negronis, big Slurpee-style cups of Piña Colada and more.
Now comes Mega Mary, a one-litre Bloody Mary containing fennel salt and Truff black-truffle hot sauce. The hefty swing-top bottles can be pre-ordered through Zsa’s Bar Bistro & Deli in Northcote and will be available for five days only.
“Zsa’s is open for Martinis and oysters from as early as 10am daily, but we very soon realised that a kick arse Bloody Mary was an essential addition to this morning starter repertoire,” says Zsa’s owner, Zowie Minchin. “In the experimental stages we grabbed a bottle of Truff off the deli shelf and added it to the mix ... [it’s] now our signature morning, afternoon and everyday drink.”
