Mischa Tropp of Toddy Shop and Brendan King of late-night Sydney eatery Derrel’s are two of the country’s most exciting chefs. On Sunday May 5, the pair will team up at Tropp’s Toddy Shop in Fitzroy for lunch and dinner service between 12pm and 9pm as part of an Indian-focused pop-up they’re calling Let’s Havva Chaat.
The name nods to the menu which will, unsurprisingly, centre on chaat: “What we might call a small plate or snack,” as Tropp puts it. “We’ve extended it a little to include dishes that are still street food, but I wouldn’t quite call chaat.”
The chefs share a similar ethos when it comes to cooking. Tropp is known for showcasing homestyle Keralan food. And at Derrel, King – who previously worked at chef-favourite Sydney restaurant Baba’s Place – proudly celebrates his Anglo-Indian heritage through food.
