Mums deserve a special drink. And while you could reach for the champagne, this cocktail by Jenna Hemsworth (top 25 finalist in 2015’s World Class competition and bartender at Vue De Monde’s Lui Bar) is a much better idea.

Mother’s Prosperity is a twist on the Vieux Carre, an old New Orleans cocktail Hemsworth’s mum, Rosemarie, likes. “She’s fond of classics and straightforward drinks,” says Hemsworth. “This one is inspired by mum’s love of whisky drinks that, ‘don't have all that fancy stuff on them’.”

“It’s dark, subtly sweet and smoky. The chocolate and walnut pair well together to bring those darker flavours forward in the whisky, with the armagnac fortifying the whisky base and adding depth and richness.”

Mother’s Prosperity by Jenna Hemsworth

Approximately 1.5 standard drinks.

Ingredients
45ml Johnnie Walker Platinum Label ( Johnnie Walker Black Label was on hand at Jenna's family home and made the perfect alternative)
15ml Armagnac
5ml dark chocolate liqueur
5ml salted rich sugar syrup (a 2:1 sugar syrup with salt added)
2 drops walnut bitters

Method
Place one large block of ice into a short glass. Pour ingredients over and stir down.

Garnish with a twist of lemon and a square of caramelised white chocolate.
