“Share Love”, “Thinking ‘Bout You”, “Gelato Makes You Feel Good”.

These are the optimistic messages at the centre of a new, limited-edition range of nutty gelato cakes by Pidapipo in collaboration with Melbourne illustrator Beci Orpin.

Written on edible wafers on top of each cake – and on each cake box – they’re just the kind of gentle reminder we need during lockdown 2.0.

There are three flavours to choose from, each covered in Italian meringue and with a flaky, puff-pastry base: cassata (ricotta and candied fruits) and pistachio gelato with chopped pistachios; bacio and hazelnut gelato with chopped hazelnuts; and peanut butter and chocolate gelato with a chocolate crumb.

The bold, colourful designs are in Orpin’s signature style, as seen in the calming Covid-19 message she shared on a billboard in South Melbourne in April . And she’s also created a number of stickers, postcards and window decals to brighten up the Pidapipo stores during lockdown.

The gelato cakes cost $15 each and are available to pick up from Pidapipo’s Carlton and Windsor stores until August 25.
