Tied with Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish is probably the most famous vegan in the world right now. And, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know the US pop star is currently in Australia touring last year’s billions-streaming album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

As part of her world tour and ongoing sustainability mission, Eilish has shared a map of plant-based restaurants for fans to check out in cities all around the world – and she’s called out a bunch of solid options around Melbourne, in time for her sold-out concerts at Rod Laver Arena this week.

“Adopting a plant-based diet is one of the most impactful ways you can help heal our planet,” she writes. “Here are some great local plant-based options when you come to my shows.”

Ballard’s, Thornbury

As well as running one of Melbourne’s best hospo meme accounts, Ballard’s is flying the flag for clever, plant-based cuisine on the north side.

Brother Bon, Northcote

Brother Bon’s menu also caters to gluten, nut, soy and allium intolerances. Hit the spot for Asian dishes including dumplings, Viet fried rice, pad thai and more.

Pickles Milk Bar, Carlton North

Pickles is a snug spot with all the hallmarks of a classic milk bar, from the subway tiles to salad sangas and potato cakes.

Red Sparrow Pizza, Collingwood

Eilish’s pizza pick serves classic round pies and more out-there ones including hoisin and plant-based char siu with dairy-free mozz.

Vegie Bar, Fitzroy

This Fitzory classic opened in 1988 and it’s still going strong. Come for a borderless menu featuring ramen noodle “zen” bowls, vegie burritos and a crowd-favourite laksa.

Funghi e Tartufo, CBD

Named after its signature dish (mushroom and truffle pappardelle), Funghi e Tartufo serves some of the city’s best plant-based Italian from a converted 19th-century warehouse on Hardware Lane.

Smith & Daughters, Collingwood

Smith & Daughters might be the GOAT of Australian plant-based restaurants. Few chefs have made as big an impact on the cuisine here as Shannon Martinez, and her Collingwood flagship proves it every day.

Lona Misa, South Yarra

Martinez’s other place at the front of South Yarra’s Ovolo Hotel has a mostly Latin menu, drawing on the chef’s Spanish heritage and the Hispanic communities of New York and Los Angeles.

Sister of Soul, St Kilda

Sister’s menu is a celebration of cuisines around the world, so you’ll find plant-based takes on Japanese okonomiyaki, Indian cauliflower and lentil curry, and more.
