Swan Street restaurant Noir always lived up to its name with its minimalist design, dim lighting, black-painted walls and focus on French bistro-style cooking with a Melbourne spin.

Head chef and owner Peter Roddy, originally from Ireland, worked for Gordon Ramsey’s Amaryliss in Glasgow, Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche in London and did a stint in New Zealand before moving to Australia.

Noir opened in 2011, and yesterday after 13 years in business, Roddy and his business and life partner Ebony Vagg announced the restaurant would have its last service on Thursday March 28.

“'We have thoroughly enjoyed our little passion project over the last 13 years and loved being part of the community. Thanks so much to everyone who supported us,” the pair said in an email statement.

But Roddy and Vagg are not giving up the space and say we should expect a full refurb and a new concept – where existing Noir vouchers will be honoured – from them soon.

Noir at 175 Swan Street, Richmond will close after service on Thursday March 28
