Melbourne slogged through another mostly locked-down winter this year. And, because of the ongoing stay-at-home orders, spring didn’t bring too much reprieve.

But summer is coming, and nothing says that quite like the news of Arbory Afloat’s return for a sixth season.

All going to plan, the huge floating bar on the Yarra – alongside Arbory Bar & Eatery – will reopen on Tuesday October 26, in line with the government’s road map out of lockdown. That means 50 people at a time will be able to lap up a boozy afternoon on one of Melbourne’s favourite pontoons.

Arbory Afloat is well-known for its themed fit-outs – past designs have been inspired by Miami Vice, Palm Springs and the French Riviera. But this year the 69-metre-long pontoon will be decked out in the style of Turkey’s picturesque Turquoise Coast. Be transported to a European beach club with 80-year-old olive trees, tasselled umbrellas and thatched roofing, as well as eye-popping Missoni-inspired upholstery. As usual, there’ll be two bars across two levels, plus a deck area beside the pool.

Food-wise, expect a Mediterranean-inspired offering (pizza included) by executive chef Nick Bennett and Turkish-born chefs and siblings Nada Thomas and Salim Gafayri. The drinks will keep with the theme, with eight house-mix cocktails on tap.

While limited walk-in spots will be available, the lush day beds and cabanas on the upper deck are available to book now.

Abory Afloat is slated to open on Tuesday October 26. Book online.
