They say you should eat the rainbow, but what about the clouds? At this new installation from Brazilian artist João Loureiro, you can do exactly that.
Loureiro has brought his work Escala de Cinzas (Greyscale) to Melbourne for MPavilion, the annual architectural commission and events series in Queen Victoria Gardens, which is currently celebrating its 10th year. It’s the artist’s first project in Australia, and it’s designed to challenge your senses.
Visitors get to choose from six gelato flavours created in collaboration with Piccolina Gelateria. The catch? None of the flavours are labelled, and you have to order by shade – from light grey to near black – rather than taste.

SIGN UPYou can get one ($7.20), two ($8.50) or three ($10.50) scoops of gelato in your grey cone or cup. While there are no tasters, there will be a dairy-free option and accommodations for allergies where possible.
The frozen art activation popped up last weekend, from November 17 to 19, and proved so popular that the MPavilion team has extended its run. Melburnians can experience Loureiro and Piccolina’s grey gelato every weekend from Friday December 1 to Sunday December 17 (excluding Friday December 8).
