Commonfolk Frankston
Since Sam Keck opened Commonfolk in Mornington in 2010, the roastery and cafe’s high quality coffee, creative brunches and community feel have earned it a loyal following. Keck has since taken Commonfolk further up the bay, opening up in Beaumaris, South Yarra and Frankston.
The Frankston cafe, which opened in 2021, is on the former site of Ol' Mate Coffee and serves up hearty brunches, consistently good coffee, takeaway pastries and bags of beans to go.
If you’re sticking around, tuck into nourishing brunches such as zhooshed-up eggs Benny with apple and crispy kale, or a vegan big brekkie with quinoa, roasted veggies, kasundi and vegan ranch dressing on Turkish bread. There's also a tight list of grab-and-go options, including sandwiches that might make smoky pastrami, crisped-up eggplant, or Cuban-marinated pork shoulder the hero.
Your drink choice depends on the mood. Commonfolk’s sustainably sourced coffee is ever-reliable, and roasted just down the road in Mornington. Its espresso blends, Godfather and Progress Street, are worth your time, and there’s also filter and cold brew coffee on offer. If you’re here for a boozy or recovery brunch, there’s also a rotation of local beers from Jetty Road Brewery, Mimosas and lo-fi drops from the likes of Site Wine and Fin Wines.
For home, Commonfolk’s beans, reusable coffee cups and cold brew in a goon sack pop out from the retail shelf. And – as at its sibling cafes – 20 cents from every coffee sold goes towards The Cup That Counts, a Commonfolk-run initiative that helps to sustain and support its overseas coffee producers.
