Elceed
There are several cafes across Melbourne that play with the Grandma Chic aesthetic (just think of all the souvenir teaspoons you’ve used to stir your lattes with in the past few years). Many end up coming across a little too twee or ironic and it’s often hard to imagine any grandmother actually being comfortable in such a space.
Queensberry Street’s Elceed is cosy, bright, entirely welcoming and clearly designed by the most stylish grandmother around – from the teacups hanging in the front window to the bold use of orange and purple throughout the otherwise white indoor space.
The menu is brimming with brunch fare sure to excite. Try the chickpea and haloumi fritters topped with crème fraiche and swimming in a tangy rocket and beetroot salad. Or perhaps the mushroom and Meredith-goat feta bruschetta will tickle your fancy, with its crispy crown of candied prosciutto.
Elceed is like stepping into your grandma’s kitchen and being spoiled with all her best treats. Heck, bring grandma along when you visit. She’ll love sitting in the original '70s courtyard while nibbling on a peach, coconut and banana muffin.
