Oskar Pizza
Features
Oskar Pizza is cosy inside, with white tablecloths and dark wood chairs. Thin-crust pizzas and bottles of wine are shared on outside tables. Families and couples come and go, clutching takeaway boxes like prizes.
The easy-going pizza place uses high quality DOC-certified Italian ingredients. Highlights include the bull-boar sausage pizza dotted with chilli and fresh basil, and a confit-quail pizza that balances salty and sweet by using crunchy pancetta and tangy sherried onions. It’s traditional, with just the right amount of modern. If you really want to load some carbs, try the moreish kipfler-potato pizza with fresh rosemary and balsamic onion.
But before you get into any of that, make like a real Italian with a light, spritzy Bellini or Americano cocktail. Wines begin at a wallet-friendly $7.50 for house red or white, right up to elegant Italians that are worth a splurge. Beers feature a couple of big name lagers, alongside locals such as Edge Brewing and Two Birds.
Pizza can be taken away, but when there’s Fritz Gelato or chocolate-hazelnut pizza for dessert, you’ll want to dine in. And maybe have one more glass of wine. When the lights come up, head next door to Joe Taylor for a few cocktails.
