Wazzup Falafel is focused on serving plant-based Jordanian comfort food. Chef and co-owner Ahmad Al Alaea said that when he moved from Jordan to Australia, he struggled to find the falafel he knew from home. So, he started Wazzup Falafel as a food truck in 2019 and opened its first bricks-and-mortar in 2024 (developing a devoted, falafel-loving following along the way).

Everything here is made in-house: the pita is made fresh every morning, along with the falafel mix, hummus, tahini and condiments. The star of the show, of course, is the falafel. The toasty-brown, piping hot balls are served alongside green-chilli-dressed whipped tahini and hummus. It’s made using chickpeas, fresh parsley, a dash of bi-carb soda to give its fluffy bite, and the secret Wazzup 21 spice blend.

Wazzup also takes great pride in its hummus. Chickpeas are soaked for 16 hours, then boiled, skinned, and blitzed with tahini, ice and lemon juice. It’s then topped with fresh olive oil, diced green chilli and whole-boiled chickpeas. There’s also fatteh (a dish of torn bread tossed with soup or cooking liquid and often topped with meat or vegetables and a yoghurt sauce) and musabaha (a hummus-like dish with whole chickpeas).

The venue is clad in warm wood panels, and bar seating at the front window. Small tables down the sides provide a cosy place to sit and enjoy your Wazzup haul. You might even spot Al Alaea in the semi-open kitchen rolling wraps or assembling piping-hot bowls of fatteh, always sporting his signature cowboy hat. Al Alaea co-owns the venue with his friend and business partner, Bara Sifi.
