Luxsmith
Features
After a decade of serving Seddon locals at Le Chien, Denis Lucey (also of Bottega and Thousand Pound wine bar) and Andy Smith decided it was time for a change. They turned the site into the slicker Luxsmith in late 2015, to focus on a menu mostly inspired by Vietnamese and Thai, but with a twist.
All-day breakfast includes Luxsmith hotcakes with grilled pineapple, berries and coconut yoghurt; and Vietnamese omelette with Asian mushrooms, coriander and grilled baguette. Lunch swaps the stay-a-while vibe for speed and simplicity, with plenty of banh mi and congee options.
By night, it’s all about sharing. Start with a bottle of “lucky dip” wine, which arrives wrapped in foil to hide its identity. Hopefully, it pairs well with whatever you order, be it crab, pomelo-and-lime betel leaf; Sichuan pepper lamb ribs with spring onion and ginger; or soft-shell crab with traditional Singaporean sauce. If you’d prefer to play it safe, there’s a substantial wine list and a healthy range of cocktails and beers.
Interior designer and Ladro restaurateur Ingrid Langtry opened up the space with light wood tables and chairs, bright tiling and white walls that help draw in the natural light. The space isn’t large, but there’s plenty of outdoor seating to accommodate the busiest days.
Luxsmith is now hiring. Find out more on Scout, Broadsheet's new employment website.
