Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a $465 million Victorian Tourism Recovery Package, which will help resuscitate sectors hit hard by the pandemic.

It includes a $28 million initiative to get people travelling to regional Victoria, through which the government will give away up to 120,000 travel vouchers worth $200 each.

Victorians will be able to apply for the vouchers as long as they spend at least $400 on accommodation, attractions or tours in regional Victoria. It’s part of a plan to help support the regional restaurants, pubs, hotels, wineries and small businesses struggling because of the pandemic.

“Whether it’s a daytrip with the family or a tour along our stunning coast, we’re helping more people get out and enjoy the best Victoria has to offer,” Andrews said in a statement.

“This funding will help tourism businesses bounce back from the challenges of this year – welcoming more visitors and employing more Victorians.”

The vouchers will be up for grabs in rounds. Registration for the first round of 40,000 vouchers opens on December 11 at 10am for travel between December 12 and January 22. Registration for the second round opens on January 20 for travel between January 27 and April 1. And registration for the third round opens on March 30 for travel between April 6 and May 31.

Victorian residents over the age of 18 are eligible to apply, but each household is limited to one voucher. To redeem it, you must spend a minimum of two nights in paid accommodation, and prove you have spent $400 on that accommodation, paid tours and experiences, or entry fees to regional attractions.
