International Fried Chicken Day is one of our favourite days on the calendar. Turns out, it’s the same for Mr Miyagi, which is adding bottomless fried chicken to its loose lunch ($69pp) on Saturday, July 6. The six-course meal also includes bottomless cocktails. Book your spot here.

Mr Miyagi looks a little different to the wise, disciplined mentor you remember from The Karate Kid movies. You'll enter under a "Japanese Food & Liquor" sign, then traverse a black grille walkway which opens up to reveal polished cement floors, exposed brick walls and a neon heart enveloping a graffiti-scawled "Loser", which is where the 80s nostalgia ends – well, almost.

The menu is a concise offering of fun plates designed around sharing. Smaller starter-style dishes include an enjoyable silken tofu number, tempura broccoli and a salmon nori taco. For something larger, try the ramen gnocchi – it doesn't sound like it should work, but it does. Round it off with a few pieces of Miyagi fried chicken.

The playful cocktail list includes the Hello Kitty Sour and Astro Boy, while Japanese whisky, beer, cider and iced tea are also on offer. There’s also a whole menu devoted to sake.

In 2019, Mr Miyagi introduced Level 1, an upstairs dining room available for functions. There are a couple of different food and drink packages, depending on the event type. The space can seat up to 30 people, or if it's a cocktail arrangement, there's room for 60 people.
