Boma Coffee
Boma Coffee is a bright and compact cafe that opened in 2018. It’s run by sisters Chloe and Tash Strachan (both Pango Coffee). Come here for refreshing breakfasts, grab-and-go pastries, hot coffees and a buzzy dining area out the front.
Industry Beans is the chosen roast and Larsen & Thompson’s tea is also on pour. Bread and other pastries come from Penny for Pound, while crumpets from Holy Crumpets are also available, and might come slathered in butter and drizzled in honey.
If the sun’s out, take a seat among the locals and dogs out front and order something from the stellar brunch menu. Crowd favourites include the chilli scramble (which might also be piled into a grab-and-go brioche burger) and the Southern fried chicken burger.
Back inside, the fit-out is inspired by the Zimbabwean-born Strachan sisters’ roots. The warm timber slats on the walls, rattan lampshades above the counter and olive-green paint nod to the grass and thatching of bomas (enclosures traditionally used for containing livestock or community gatherings in parts of Africa). The inviting space, formerly home to a fish and chip shop, is also filled out with brass tables, birch stools and pink accents.
