Just three weeks after opening on Mornington’s Main Street, chef Matti Fallon’s Colt Dining has closed due to a devastating electrical fire that tore through the venue on Friday October 28.

The team confirmed the news via an Instagram post on Saturday October 29 stating, “It is with heavy hearts we confirm that Colt Dining was affected by flooding and an electrical fire within our shared building at 9 Main Street, Mornington.”

In a post on his personal Instagram account, Fallon stated: "It’s impossible to find the words to explain how devastated I am right now. Friday night @colt_dining will be a day I will never forget."

Fallon is known for his work at high-end Scandinavian restaurant Du Nord on Little Bourke Street in 2014, Princes Pies in the CBD, which opened in 2018, and his residency at the Broadsheet Kitchen at Saint Crispin in 2019.
Colt Dining, a 95-seat 1970s-inspired restaurant, marked Fallon's return to the industry after recovering from brain surgery. “Words cannot express the devastation we feel. However, we are profoundly grateful for our community and patrons that have overwhelmingly embraced Colt in our initial weeks,” the Instagram post continued.

The team plans to rebuild and reopen, ending the post with: “We are down – but will rise again. Stay tuned.”

Broadsheet has contacted Fire Rescue Victoria, Fallon and Colt Dining for further comment.
