What are you in the market for?
At Broadsheet, it’s the long-considered furniture upgrades we’ve been wanting to invest in that are now more tempting than ever – thanks to our (intentionally?) slow deliberations and Black Friday discounted prices.
It’s swapping out that wobbly table or unifying any mismatched chairs, but also ending the battle with your pooch over armrest chewing for good.
Here are the items we’re adding to cart in the furniture sales this Black Friday.

Gustaf Westman Blue Curvy mirror
$1838 (was $2150) So the obsession with architect-turned-designer Gustaf Westman’s works began in lockdown. It started with his chubby-brimmed colourful plates and bloomed with his equally vibrant, funky, curvy mirrors (here we are!). Yes, admittedly, this one’s a bit of a splurge. But Ssense is the only place that ships his quirky, cutesy stuff to Australia (plus the delivery is free – and his works are rarely on sale), so all things considered, it’d be rude not to.– Simone Richardson, shopping editor.
RJ Living Clover bedside table
$509 (was $679) I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of timber bedside tables for a while now and this sleek teak number from RJ Living might have put an end to my search. It’s got neat storage with a draw concealed behind a gently curved handle, plus a woven shelf at the bottom – great to display a stack of mags and books.– Gitika Garg, assistant editor.
Koala Torakina Outdoor lounge set
$2534 (was $2880) My outdoor table is currently propped up with rope and a kitchen stool (don’t ask), so Koala’s outdoor set naturally tops my wishlist this year. I love hosting, and the soft moss hue suits my aesthetic. It’s a huge upgrade from my current table, which is badly hand-painted in chalky pink.– Maddy Pogue, social media coordinator.
Eva Slideaway sofa bed and covers
$2490 (was $3140) I’ve been on a search for an investment sofa bed for a good long while now. One that a) looks good in sofa form, b) is available in non-grey colourways, please make it stop and c) is high enough off the ground that my parents can easily get in and out when they come to stay. The Eva Slideaway Sofa Bed ticks all the boxes and the shop is throwing in an extra set of covers for free during Black Friday, so it might be time to add to cart.– Jo Walker, studio editor.
Zorali Highlands two-person tent
$320 (was $400) Is a tent classed as furniture? It’s a cosy home for the outdoors, so I’m claiming so. I’m going camping in the bush to celebrate the New Year with friends and I’m in desperate need of a tent update after some heavy festival wear to my old guy. This one from Zorali is lightweight, durable and comes with a lifetime warranty.– Simone Richardson, shopping editor.
Koala Kirribilli side table
$207 (was $295) I live in a teeny tiny inner-city flat which means that to accommodate my L-shaped sofa, I had to give up my coffee table. Every time I have to balance a bowl on my lap, I miss my dearly departed coffee table. I’ve got my eye on the Kirribilli Side Table from Koala – it’s chic and it won’t take up much floor space!– Lucy Bell Bird, national assistant editor.
Koala Luxe mattress
$1400 (was $2000) I’ve been in the game long enough to know that the best time to buy a new mattress is over Black Friday. Crafted from Australian cashmere and a linen-blend boucle, this one by Koala is for long, cushy sleeps designed to gently carry you through the night. Plus, it’s $600 off – kerching.– Simone Richardson, shopping editor.
RJ Living Berg Armless middle module
$799 (was $999) About ten years ago, I scooped up a shabby chic leather armchair off the side of the road in Clovelly and have been dragging it around Sydney ever since. Alas, the dog has nibbled the armrests to bits, so it’s probably time to let the old girl go. (The armchair, not the dog). Hello, RJ Living!– Dan Cunningham, acting features editor.
Crossley C72 Vinyl shelf turntable
$385 When it comes to the crisp, nostalgic sound of vinyl, Crosley knows what’s up. This player-and-speaker duo features a walnut finish with brushed gold accents for a retro-inspired design that will fit effortlessly into my home aesthetic. It’s also got a built-in Bluetooth receiver for a mix of modern and classic listening – the best of both worlds.– Camille Allen, social video producer.
Alexander Calder Original Lithographic Exhibition poster
$305 (was $338) On a recent trip to Daylesford in regional Victoria, I dined at (my fave) restaurant, Bar Merenda. The wine bar’s feature wall is dotted with vintage abstract posters which always hold my attention, but this time I noted the artist Alexander Calder’s name, and went on a mission to hunt down a bold lithographic of my own. There’s this one from the Galerie Maeght exhibition in Paris from 1966, but also works from 1975 or 1976. Choices, choices.– Simone Richardson, shopping editor.
