Last year, acclaimed Melbourne street artist Tyrone “Rone” Wright took over Burnham Beeches, a sprawling mansion in Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges, for his huge Empire installation.
It became an immersive, beautifully dilapidated ode to an abandoned past, with large portraits of a woman’s face – part-graffiti, part-realist portraiture – covering the walls in 12 spaces.
Now, in true lockdown style, one of those spaces has been immortalised in a challenging, 1000-piece puzzle. The Study, which Rone says was among the most involved works he produced for the installation, features a shelf-full of books with their spines painted to form a towering, deep-purple portrait. (It’s also available as a small print if you can’t bear the thought of another puzzle.)
A similarly striking work, Homewrecker, from his 2016 exhibition Empty, is also available in puzzle form.
“In these times where many of us are self-isolating I wanted to offer something to keep us occupied,” Rone says on his website. “They are quite difficult so [they] should keep you busy for a while.”
