Throughout the brief pause, post offices will stay open, home deliveries will continue and post boxes will still be emptied. But your online order is likely to be delayed.

Australia Post is currently experiencing record parcel volumes in Victoria, NSW and the ACT. If that wasn’t challenging enough, roughly 500 staff members a day are also in home isolation due to Covid outbreaks.

Yesterday the service announced it’s pausing all parcel collections from online retailers in these three states, from 7am on Saturday 4 September until 7am on Tuesday 7 September – a total of four days. Collections will continue as normal across the rest of Australia.

“This temporary measure will allow us to responsibly clear record parcel volumes in parts of our network impacted by Covid-19,” Australia Post wrote on its website. “The safety of our people is our highest priority, and this will help ensure volumes are kept to a safe and manageable level. Our team will continue with processing across the weekend in these areas.”

Express Post, Premium and Startrack Express services, and collections from post offices and post boxes, will be unaffected. Likewise, home deliveries will continue (including on weekends) and post office branches will remain open.
