If demolishing the Netflix hit Tiger King in one sitting left you with a new big-cat obsession, I’m with you. Luckily, even more ferocious felines are just a mouse-click away.
The Taronga zoos in Sydney and Dubbo are closed due to coronavirus – so they’re going virtual for the first time in the institution’s 103-year history.
Launching at midday today, Taronga TV will include 24/7 animal livestreams, behind-the-scenes footage, keeper talks and shows, plus resources for teachers and parents who are educating kids at home.
At the click of a button, you can check in on Sumatran tigers (including three playful cubs), an elephant calf called Jai Dee or a pod of seals.
Can’t spy any animal antics? Fear not. The cameras only cover a portion of each enclosure, so click back in later to see if the beasts have moved around. The tigers, for example, are most active at 9.30am and 2.15pm (feeding time, naturally).
Taronga TV footage will also be shared daily on the zoos’ Facebook, Instagram and YouTube channels.
