Getting back to doing what they love was what motivated Victoria’s arts community to band together to create a theatrical ad campaign that encourages everyone, especially Victorians, to get vaccinated as soon as they’re eligible.
Figuring the solution to being back on stages like pre-pandemic times and everyone living normal non-lockdown lives is mass vaccination, the ensemble is combating vaccine hesitancy with a campaign it’s called The Performance of a Lifetime. Watch it below:
“Let’s give Covid its final curtain call,” one artist says – an understandable wish from an industry among the hardest rocked by the pandemic, given its relative inability to WFH. Performing for a Macbook Pro just isn’t the same as a live audience.
Spearheaded by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the campaign features top talent such as jack-of-all-trades Tim Minchin, the inimitable Rhonda Burchmore OAM, actor Virginia Gay, renowned composer and opera singer Deborah Cheetham AO, as well as artists from the MSO, The Australian Ballet, Melbourne Theatre Company, Short Black Opera and more.
In a statement, MSO managing director Sophie Galaise said: “Along with our colleagues in the arts community, we are encouraging our audiences and the wider community to get vaccinated so we can all get back to doing what we love – whether that’s playing contact sports, enjoying a meal with our loved ones, or getting back on stage to entertain our treasured audiences.”
Research has proven both the Pfizer and Astra Zeneca vaccines to be effective in mitigating the effects of Covid-19. But on top of that, getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to help Australia bounce back and to avoid serious illness, as well as all the other tumult that comes with the pandemic: lockdowns, social distancing, limited capacities and more.
