Nala knows what it takes to make a good pair of knickers. The Melbourne brand’s signature mesh and Bio Butter ranges have become top drawer staples since launching in 2022.
Now, the brand is one-upping itself with the launch of the Better Than Cotton collection. Made from modal, a bio-based fabric derived from beech tree cellulose, these pieces have a super-soft texture – and they’re biodegradable and compostable when they reach the end of their life.
According to Nala’s co-founder Chloe de Winter, the Better Than Cotton fabric “feels like heaven”. She acknowledges that might sound dramatic, but says “it’s beautiful and soft on the skin but still has enough firmness to be supportive”. It’s also noted for its breathability.
The new fabric is used across nine styles, including the Support wirefree bralette, underwire bra, padded wirefree bralette, Scoop crop top and Scoop cami, as well as four underwear silhouettes: Classic Gee, bikini brief, high waist brief and midi brief.
The size range includes A to H cups, with bands running from 8 to 24. Briefs are also available from XS to 6XL.
Continuing Nala’s bold approach to colour, the new range comes in shades like Bubble Gum, Salt & Pepper, Pomegranate, Cobalt Dreams and Licorice. “When we created Nala we were so sick of the sea of beige and neutral undies … there is a time and place for these but we wanted to have fun with our colours,” de Winter says.
The colourful collection is partially driven by what consumers want. The brand takes trends into consideration but the team is super tuned into its audience.
“Our entire product roadmap is built on requests by customers,” de Winter says. “We constantly share customer feedback with our design team to ensure we understand the assignment.”
