Sydney has stepped out in a wave of colour for day one of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week. Broadsheet photographer Liana Hardy has had her eye off the runway, capturing some of the best street-style looks out the front of early shows.
Show-goers pledged their allegiance to print while waiting for Alemais to open the week. Suiting remained sleek as St Agni loyalists lined up for a look at the latest from the minimalist Byron Bay-based brand. But texture is trending, too. The crisp autumn weather has lent itself to layers in leather, lace and tactile knits being seen across the crowd at Carriageworks – and beyond.
Later in the day, New Zealand label Maggie Marilyn took things offsite with a sunset show at Rushcutters Bay. There was a relaxed atmosphere in the air as fish and chips were served alongside Gimlets for the label's first Australian runway show.
Afterpay Australian Fashion Week runs until May 19.
