Sydney jeweller Anitra Metzler launched Twelve AM at the beginning of 2021. The label distinguished itself from the beginning, using Australian gold and diamonds to ensure a transparent supply chain. Each piece is also made to order over the course of two weeks in Sydney – regardless of whether the design is custom or not – to reduce overstock and wastage.
The label’s newest collection, Sky Away, celebrates the beauty of the heavens and the earth using diamonds, yellow gold and stirling silver.
The delicate leaves of the chain of hearts, a flowing vine native to South Africa, are a recurring motif, showing up on dainty earrings, a fine-chain necklace and an unusual ring with a three-quarter band. As the vine’s name suggests, the leaves form a natural heart shape, here rendered in nine-carat yellow gold or stirling silver. If you’re more into roses, the Thorn necklace, finished with a rose bud charm on the chain, is equally striking.
Metzler uses Western Australian diamonds, meanwhile, to represent single evening stars and small constellations, all twinkly and bright. The diamonds appear in ones, twos and threes on a delicate chain bracelet, simple stud earrings, a binary star ring and a minimalist necklace.
The collection’s eponymous necklace, though, is the most striking (and expensive, it should be said) of the lot. Inspired by the astrolabe and other instruments of astronomy, the intricate medallion features interwoven vines and two inset starry diamonds.
