We may be in the depths of winter – and in Melbourne, another lockdown – but summer is coming.
In anticipation, cult Japanese retailer Uniqlo has recruited Finnish design house Marimekko for a third time to create a limited-edition capsule collection, inspired by summer days in Finland.
The spring/summer collection combines the best of the two brands – Marimekko’s joyfully bold prints and Uniqlo’s affordability.
It features V-necked maxi dresses and shirts; flowy cropped pants, skirts and shorts; and printed boxy tees and tunics – in linen blend, cotton and jersey. There are also a few “pocketable” parkas to keep you dry in case of a shower.
Summer-appropriate accessories, such as broadbrim hats, sarong-like linen-blend scarves, and tote bags are also included. Plus, some super cute kids’ clothes – dresses and leggings for toddlers, and patterned two-piece bodysuits for bubs.
They’re all splashed in iconic Marimekko prints by the company’s legendary designers Maija Isola and Annika Rimala, including the bright pink Kivet (stones), the vibrant and fruity Tori (marketplace), and the blue and orange Raide (railroad track).
The collection launches on Thursday August 6 in all Uniqlo stores and online.
