Masterclass in Motion: Kingfish at Automata with Clayton Wells

How movement shapes the ever-changing degustation dishes at this relatively new but highly respected restaurant. In partnership with the First-Ever Mazda CX-3, we’ve captured how our favourite chefs move like never before.

Automata is where Australian chefs love to dine. It is inside the iconic The Old Clare Hotel, which has transformed Chippendale in inner-city Sydney.

While there is some confusion about how to pronounce the name (it’s “or-tom-eter”), there is no confusion about the quality of the food – it’s excellent. The five-course degustation is always changing based on the best quality produce available. The dishes seem minimal, but as you’ll see in the video above, they’re deeply intricate.

Wells spent three years at Momofuku Seiōbo before opening Automata, his first solo restaurant.
