Tearing into a Woolworths chocolate mud cake is a perfectly acceptable (and very Australian) way to mark a milestone. But if celebrating your next birthday or anniversary in isolation warrants something a little fancier, Cornelius Cheesemongers has a less traditional option.
The online-only retailer has just released a cheese cake (not cheesecake) that you can pierce with candles and cut – just like a regular cake – while your nearest and dearest watch via Zoom.
The base is Cashel Blue, carved from a cylinder-shaped wheel. Stacked on top are wheels of triple-cream brie and camembert, which could be Aussie or imported – it’ll vary from order to order. If you prefer your cheese harder and sharper, the towers are customisable.
You can also add crackers and quince paste (gluten-free alternatives are available) or vino onto your order. (Choose from Hanging Rock’s Macedon sparkling cuvée or rosé, or Tallarida’s Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay.) Other festive options include three-cheese fondue sets and cheese packs made for toasties or nachos.
The cheese cakes range from $80 to $170. Shipping is available Australia-wide – it’s free in Melbourne and starts at $20 for the rest of the country.
