Video: A Weekend in Auckland Part 2

The beautiful landscapes New Zealand is known for hug the bustling city of Auckland. Here’s the second part of our video series on a short trip over the Tasman Sea.

Ex-Noma Copenhagen chef Jacob Kear heads the kitchen at Auckland’s fine-dining mecca, Clooney. His 12-course tasting menus showcase premium local produce and his hard-wired knack for foraging.

Dessert-fiends will already know Miann, the outrageously creative place dedicated to everything sweet. Brian Campbell, one of Auckland’s best pastry chefs, leads Miann and his trademark creations include gelato on a stick, petit gaueaux, macarons and bonbons.

An Auckland hotspot with a focus on design is The Shelter located in the iconic Ponsonby suburb. Run by fashion designer Vicki Taylor, this former laundromat is now a concept store stocked with the leading fashion and jewellery names in New Zealand and the rest of the world.

An hour’s drive west of Auckland, you’ll find the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park, where volcanic black-sand surf beaches and lush bush land meet. Kitekite Falls is a three-tiered waterfall you can swim at the base of, or canyon down from the top. It’s a scary but ultimately rewarding way to experience this majestic part of the world so close to Auckland.
