Cirque du Soleil: Crystal
You’ve heard of Christmas in July. Canadian-based circus theatre company Cirque du Soleil are about to take it to a whole new level thanks to the debut of a winter-themed performance on ice.
Dubbed Crystal, Cirque du Soleil’s new arena spectacular show will take place on a frozen stage and feature world-class ice skaters, acrobats and gymnasts tumbling, leaping and gliding their way through gravity-defying performances over the ice.
Unlikely heroine Crystal gives the show its namesake, guiding audiences through her quest for self-discovery. The theatrical journey through her inner world manifests in a series of athletic stunts, including synchronised skating, pendular pole work, and swinging trapeze all set to an arresting soundscape and visual projections.
After more than 900 performances around the world, the family-friendly Crystal show makes its way to Christchurch from June 16 to June 18 at Christchurch Arena, and Auckland from July 4 to July 8 at Spark Arena.
Directed by Shana Carroll and Sebastien Soldevila, Crystal is Cirque du Soleil’s 42nd creation, and its first on ice in its 33-year history.
