Johnny’s Burger Joint
In a block of shops deep in suburbia, Johnny’s is an unexpected ode to Americana. The murals may be minimalist and the decor Scandi-inspired, but what comes out of the kitchen totally lacks restraint.
Inventive burgers, chilli dogs and deep-fried cheese sticks are rounded out with an impressive range of imported sodas to complete the immersive experience.
Punctuated with cheeky names, the menu features burgers such as The Cure, aptly named for its bacon patty’s supposed effect on vegetarianism. Wings of Glory is – you guessed it – Buffalo wings. The Dracula’s Dilemma burger has a one-two punch of garlic butter and garlic mayo. However the pick of the bunch is the Jucy Lucy, with its oozing, cheese-stuffed patty.
Non-masochists and the sane need not apply for the eating challenges. Not for the faint of heart – or bum – the Demon’s Revenge sits at a spicy, painful, 3 million Scoville heat units.
The Burgerzilla challenge, with its four kilograms of food, and less than one per cent success rate, offers winners a cash prize, T-shirt and of course, a photo on the wall of fame. It's as much a battle against your stomach as it is your conscience - there are people starving in some countries, after all.
