Brika owner Simon Psaros always wanted to introduce Perth to Greek street food. When he opened Filos and Yiros in 2016, he did just that.

The takeaway window offers simple, no fuss Greek fare, serving high quality fast food to customers who don’t want to dine at the restaurant inside.

Leading the Hellenic-street-food charge is the yiros: a fluffy pita filled with lamb (slow-cooked in an oven), chicken or pork (rotisserie cooked over charcoal), tomato, onion, tzatziki and – the real genius move – hand-cut chips. Only a few are added but it’s one of the things that sets the yiros apart from the Turkish kebab.

Then there are the filos made with pastry imported from Greece. Spirals of flaky filo pastry are filled with spinach (spanakopita), custard (bougatsa), sausage (loukanikopita), cheese (tiropita) or chicken (kotopita).

The takeaway window at Brika lends itself well to the street-food feel. With Weld Square across the road customers can grab and go, and sit and relax in the open air.
