Today, more than a week after Joe Biden was declared winner of the 2020 US presidential election, the words “Trump 2020” appeared in the sky over Sydney’s CBD. The above photo was taken at 11.44am from Anzac Parade, Kensington.
It’s not yet clear who paid the thousands of dollars required to get a skywriting plane in the air, but it’s likely it was the same anonymous group that stumped up $3,990 in January 2017 to write “Trump”. That group used Skywriting Australia pilot Rob Vance, the same man who in September 2017 wrote the words “Vote No” above Sydney in the lead-up to the marriage equality plebiscite, and later refused to write “Vote Yaaass”, reportedly saying, “[I] wouldn’t do it for 50 grand”.
In a very on-brand move for something Trump-related, the message appears to have been written upside down, though we’ll concede this may just be a trick of perspective and thus “fake news”. Other photos posted to social media, taken from other parts of the city, show the writing oriented correctly.
