Bartiga
Double Bay has always been a bit of a bubble. But with spots like Bartiga and neighbouring venues Margaret, Baker Bleu and Matteo breathing new life into the suburb’s hospitality scene, there’s never been a better time to cross town and reacquaint yourself.
The Bartiga menu marries Australian produce with co-owner Faheem Noor’s Malaysian heritage. The former Tetsuya chef told Broadsheet that the dish that best represents this melange is the beef rendang sausage roll, made with house rendang paste. Other highlights include duck tacos (a betel leaf with French-style confit duck legs, tamarind sauce, fried onions and mango) and the tom yum spaghettini with scampi.
Bartiga sits in the previous home of Cafe Perons, a health food stop that was owned and operated by co-owner Charlie Kelly’s mother for four decades. The Andretti Fung-designed fit-out is sophisticated, with banquette seating and warm lighting. Dark wooden tables spill out onto the street, giving the venue a slight Mediterranean feel.
