World-beating surfers cut their teeth in Maroubra’s wild waters. It’s one of the best surfing beaches in Sydney, but not one for amateurs.

Maroubra’s breaks are not for the faint of heart. While they're considered some of the best in Sydney, they’re also the fiercest. It’s no wonder some of Australia’s most notorious surfers were bred in these powerful waves.

Strong swimmers are fine between the flags, and the beach is patrolled by Randwick city lifeguards every day of the year. For those less-experienced beachgoers, Mahon pool on the north head is a much easier dip in the ocean.

The surrounding parklands boast a free public gym, skate park and a large kids play area. An abundance of cafes and restaurants can also be found on Marine Parade, just a short stroll from the beach.
