This Marrickville favourite started in 2011 as a small space where customers could sample the work of emerging coffee-roasting business, Double Roasters. Not only did the beans take off – the cafe did too. The trio behind Double Roasters relocated its roastery to another site so both businesses could grow.

In 2013 the cafe's founders changed its name to Wicks Park Cafe when they sold it to the current owners. Despite this, the original name seems to have stuck. Do a Google search and you’ll see just how much.

Double Roasters’ legacy can be found in every nook of the warehouse-style cafe, with its exposed beams, low-hanging lights and mismatched chairs. A diagram of the company’s first roasting machine spans an entire wall and the machine itself is on display.

The house blend is still Flight Path by Double Roasters, affectionately named after the rumbling planes that shake the cafe’s roof as they come into land.

Good coffee isn’t the only appealing aspect. All-day breakfast and lunch classics are done well using produce from Marrickville producers where possible. The ever-popular croque monsieur uses Smokehouse ham from local butcher Black Forest combined with oozy triple cheese. And orange, ricotta and pistachios lift the thick-cut French toast.

Lunchtime options include pulled-lamb salad and corn and zucchini fritters with a poached egg.
