This is a simple cafe with a focus on quality local suppliers at the Woollahra end of Oxford Street. Four Six Eight is run by husband and wife Cathy and Jacob Lo, and between them they have a background in design and hospitality that plays out in this fresh eatery.

There’s a Scandinavian influence to the interior, with a touch of vintage bric-a-brac (some from Jacob’s personal collection) adding personality – including recycled train signboards and luggage racks with metallic suitcases. The breakfast menu is made with produce from the surrounding suburbs; from Farmer Jo’s muesli, to Bondi Yoghurt and Pepe Saya butter. Lunchtime offers simple poached chicken or smoked salmon sandwiches and its signature braised-pork-belly or roasted-duck steamed buns served with house pickles.

There are daily rice paper rolls and for the first week of each month there is bara sushi (sushi salad) of salmon and scallop with shredded egg crepe and pickled ginger. Coffee is by Single Origin Roasters, including cold drip from Kenya, and there’s even cold-pressed almond milk. Don’t miss the gorgeously tiny courtyard, perfect for catching some afternoon sun.
