On the corner of Cleveland and Baptist Streets, directly opposite the Surry Hills Shopping Village, sits the Fernside Coffee Shoppe. Removed slightly from the main cafe strip of Crown Street, this little pocket of comfort is a refreshing change.

The staff is super friendly and always at a pace, making chat and your takeaway coffee (Campos Coffee) before you’ve even put your wallet back in your bag.

The interior is industrial and sharp with sparse walls adorned with hand-painted vintage signage and a bare brick feature wall at the back of the open plan kitchen. The long, narrow space fits a few mismatched tables and ornate benches, while a smattering of seats outside allow a spot in the sun and a place for four-legged friends.

The menu here is simple but well executed, featuring all day breakfast dishes such as Baptist (eggs) Benedict, a delicious egg and bacon roll and Bircher muesli, as well as wholesome sandwiches and a range of fresh salads. Treats including cakes and cookies are also available for those with a sweet tooth.
