When Summer Hill institution One Penny Red announced its closure after 10 years on Moonbie Street, speculation was rife as to the fate of the suburb’s heritage former post office. The team behind acclaimed northern beaches’ diner Ormeggio at the Spit snapped up the site, opening Postino Osteria in the spring of 2024.
Alessandro Pavoni’s menu draws inspiration from “Piedmont to Sicily”, with an emphasis on the country’s north, where he's from. There’s an emphasis on snacking, with opening highlights including Milanese meatballs and a snacky spin on Venetian-style baccala. You can also expect handmade pastas and a couple of mains, like saltimbocca, market fish or an eggplant parmigiana.
Comfort and familiarity are both integral to the Postino experience. So is versatility – with ample space for drop-in guests and reservations alike, plus a private dining room upstairs if you really want to push the boat out with the set menu. Otherwise, simply stop by for a glass of vino and a small bite.
