September 2024: Otto's new Pasta Club offer gets you your choice of two pastas, a glass of wine and a dessert (like the summery lemonmisu) for $50. Available from Wednesday to Sunday, until September 30.

About halfway along the wharf in the waterside surrounds of Woolloomooloo, reclining gracefully by the sparkling harbour, is one of Sydney’s most established dining experiences.

Otto is modern Italian with a Sydney twist, not the least of which comes from its dazzling location. It might be part of the same group that has graced Sydney with Quay, but there is no doubt that Otto has a character all its own.

For a start, there is something decidedly private and relaxed about this modern Italian spot. The finger wharf itself dates back to 1915 and today has a string of well-respected restaurants lining its walkway, but Otto is clearly a Sydney favourite. With private dining available and a split-level space, its intimate, understated decor is part of the charm. Seating spills out to the wharf, where sunlight sparkles off the water by day and lights are reflected by night. The menu here changes with the seasons, but focuses on rustic Italian flavours and might feature beef cheeks braised in Marsala, veal back straps wrapped in pancetta, or fettuccine with black Australian truffles.

Head chef Ritchard Ptacnik came to Australia from his home country of the Czech Republic by way of Europe and he’s earned a reputation for delivering a truly relaxed but stellar dining experience.

You can even take the Otto experience home in the form of their signature olive oil. A truly Sydney dining experience evolving with the market.
