Collaborative spirit combined with a splash of booze is part of the offering at new co-working space DEW.
It’s more than just a bunch of desks and a decent wi-fi connection. The bar, cafe and downstairs photographic studio was set up by Elisa Mercurio and her fiancé Juan Londono in an effort to give freelancers a place to “just be”.
“We have space for graphic designers, artists, designers, anyone who is a start-up and wants to get out of their bedroom,” says Mercurio.

SUBSCRIBE NOWThe pair spotted a gap in the co-working landscape during time living in Sydney.
“They’re always very stiff and a bit boring,” she says of the shared spaces they’d worked at. “You felt like you had to be on your best behaviour so we thought ‘let’s create one for people like us who want to collaborate a bit more, be a bit louder and maybe have a wine at 2pm’.”
When a vacant space was made available through Renew Adelaide and landlord Flightpath Architects, the pair jumped on it.
“The whole idea of the space is aimed at people who want to just drop in with a laptop,” says Mercurio. Eleven hot desks are available per month. Drop-ins can enjoy a drink on the pavement seating or chill out near the bar and cafe. There’s a pop-up shop by local fashion label SIG until March 18, too.
“You can grab a coffee or glass of wine and go up and do some shopping on the mezzanine level or there’s a lounge area in the back where you can sit,” says Mercurio. “There’s usually a photo shoot going on as well. The space is very active.”
A mural by artist Lisa King and foliage-packed planters by Emma Sadie Thomson add colour to the otherwise industrial space.
The wine list stretches from South Australia to South America and ranges from affordable to premium. On the coffee front they’ll change the bean every two weeks, including their own blends.
Raw food (bliss balls and cakes) are provided by Raw Earth Co. and accompanied by smoothies, juices, and teas from Hygge Organic. An extended lunch menu is on the horizon.
