Seafaring Fool
The name Seafaring Fool wasn’t chosen at random. Owner Alistair Corston spent more than a decade working as a boat captain. From the anchor printed on each takeaway cup to the nautical decorations provided by the homewares store upstairs, everything at Seafaring Fool is a tribute to his love of the sea. He ran the tight space for many years before opening the larger Seafaring Fools in Glenelg in 2017, where he now spends most of his time.
Corston learnt to make coffees at Big Table and Froth and Fodder before moving into his current digs at the request of Willy Rawson, an old friend who owns JR's. The seasonally rotated, single origin beans come from another surf buddy, Trevor de Groot of De Groot Coffee.
Coston may not be in much these days, but the cafe’s appeal remains the same: laid-back service with a smile. There's only room for one behind the counter, and that leaves plenty of time for a chinwag over the hum of the Wega machine. With no seats, it's strictly coffee to go and snacks include raw cakes, protein balls (made by a friend's mum) and Four Seeds brownies.
