The Hotel Metropolitan was built in 1883 and has been trading as a pub ever since. It’s still full of old-world charm, with a no-nonsense, everyone-is-welcome attitude.

In more recent years the venue has become an important live music spot, and a breeding ground for local talent, thanks to booker Damien Kelly. From Thursday through Saturday he keeps the bands rolling in, be they acoustic or hardcore punk outfits. On other days there are DJs, so it’s best to check The Metro’s gig guide to see what’s coming up.

Away from the band room, you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere and extensive beer and wine lists. Grab a parmi with some mates and find a spot in one of the two outdoor areas, or seat yourself at the bar for a chat with other solo drinkers.

The Metro provides that time-honoured pub feeling that’s slowly disappearing from the Adelaide CBD. It’s so committed to the cause that it still offers 26 traditional pub-style rooms to stay in overnight, making it one of the last of its kind.
