Everything is not as it seems at Two-Bit Villains, a soda bar and diner situated in the quiet upper levels of Adelaide Arcade. Classics such as chilli cheese fries, nachos, hot dogs and burgers have one carnivorous thing missing, although you might not notice.

Owners Liam and Leigh Hughes provide a space where vegans, vegetarians, their partners and friends can come that doesn't scream “meatless”. This is what works about Two-Bit Villains – it doesn’t assume all vegetarians and vegans live off chia seeds and kale.

Regular burgers include the Fry, Onion Ring, Baron, El Bandito and Sloppy Joe, all made with soy mince or black bean patties. Hot donuts, waffles, hot dogs and sweet popcorn are also available.

Despite being centrally located, it’s a destination establishment, with foot traffic being minimal on the upper levels of the balcony, which adds to the discovery appeal. Two-Bit Villains is also known for its handcrafted sodas that are made fresh on site and can include flavours such as chai, mint, blueberry and lime for $5 a pop. The interior has a Tiki vibe that combines colour, kitsch and warmth all year round.
