Sarni
THE LATEST
Update Wednesday 5 March, 2025: While businesses close up ahead of tropical cyclone Alfred, Sarni is keeping its doors open for locals stocking up ahead of the storm. A post on the Ascot eatery’s Instagram invites people to not let the cyclone win and treat themselves before the end of the world. The team is offering 30 per cent off all takeaway bottles of wine for anyone purchasing a sandwich as well as $12 family-sized loaves of ciabatta.
Features
Sarni is a lunchtime hotspot. It’s common to see crowds form outside the bright blue shop on Racecourse Road, especially on Saturdays. Sandwiches are the main operation here made with bread that’s baked in-house, including focaccia, ciabatta and a Japanese milk bread.
You might go for smoked beef brisket with beef-fat-mayo and celeriac remoulade; lamb souvlaki with tzatziki, peppers and balsamic onions; and smoked mortadella with ’nduja cream cheese and pesto. There’s also a vegetarian option with cauliflower schnitzel, kasundi ketchup, taleggio and fermented zucchini.
Sangas are also available for dinner – alongside a few extra dishes – and you can pair them with a matching wine. Enjoy a fried Jamaican jerk chicken number with a Duke’s Vineyard riesling or a Sambal brisket barbeque sandwich with piquette. Also on the menu: flatbread topped with confit garlic, anchovies and smoked mozzarella; brisket croquettes; and merguez sausage koftas.
