If it’s takeaway night, Perch’d co-owners Jen Byrnes and Patrick Laws crave one of two things: Italian or fish and chips. They have their own casual spin on Italian taken care of with their first venue, Martha Street Kitchen, and this fish-and-chip shop rounds out their portfolio.

But this is no humble fish and chipper. Although it does have a sense of nostalgia to it, Perch’d is everything the takeaway place of your youth got right – fish and chips made with love – but with a heavy focus on quality.

Everything is made in-house: all of the sauces, all of the potato scallops. Even the pickles. There’s a changeable menu of three types of fish (perch, barramundi and salmon are typical), three burgers, and a bunch of sides including hand-cut chips, calamari and prawn cutlets. Laws and Byrnes work directly with local fisherman where they can.

Out front, Byrnes has put together a drinks list that leans into natural red, white and sparkling wine. Green Beacon beer is on tap.
